Title: Maintenance Technician

FLSA Status: Non-exempt                            

Manager: Director of Safety & Facilities

Compensation: $20 to $23 per hour

Classification: Full-Time

                             

Job Description

Role Summary and Itemized Responsibilities: 

  • Provides direct assistance to the Facilities Manager  
  • Exercises appropriate judgement and decision making  
  • Communicates effectively within department and other departments 
  • Completes forms, reports, and logs as required in a timely manner 
  • Assists in maintaining inventory of supplies 
  • Reads, understands, and complies with various Service Manuals, Equipment Manuals, and Operating Manuals 
  • Performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of building and grounds including masonry, painting 
  • Repairs and treats structures such as floors, walls, roofs, carpets and door hinges 
  • Makes adjustments of locks on doors, cabinets, desks, closets 
  • changes filters on heating, ventilating and air conditioning units 
  • services applianceskitchen, and emergency equipment 
  • reports mechanical malfunctions to appropriate party for action 
  • moves and assists in moving furniture and equipment 
  • sets up and breaks down cubicle partitions using the Roadrunner Food Bank’s Planned Preventative Maintenance system 
  • Applies carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills on various projects from initial layout through completion that may include framing, dry walling, installing drop ceilings, painting, repairing walls, lighting installation, outlets etc. 
  • Performs general inspections throughout buildings, warehouse areas, production areas, offices, hallways, rest rooms, corridors, stairways, and other spaces 
  • Assists in the safety and sanitation on facilities and equipment through compliance with the Food Bank guidelines and any applicable local, state, or federal laws or regulations 
  • Assists in various construction and renovation projects as assigned 
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of the Food Bank’s fleet of trucks and vans 
  • Operates and maintains scaling systems 
  • Drives forklifts and operating other pallet moving equipment as assigned 
  • Ensures that tools and equipment inventory is maintained in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, standards, and program guidelines 
  • Complies with all safe working practices performing maintenance, repairs, welding, remodels, and construction projects  
  • Ensures that all equipment being used by staff is safe and operational 
  • Adheres to all safety requirements while working: PPE, equipment guards in place, Lockout/Tagout procedures followed 
  • May be required to assist other departments such as: work in the warehouse or cleaning of facility 
  • Assists with special events as required 
  • Must be able to perform landscape maintenance duties including but not limited to trash removal, shrub upkeep, lawn care, tree pruning, leaf removal, moving and grading gravel, weed removal, etc. 

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Forklift Certification is in accordance with the company guidelines and standards 
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Suite of applications (specifically Teams/Outlook) 
  • Basic computer skills such as data entry, print, emails, and typing skills 
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) AND two (2) to four (4) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Basic knowledge of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, glass replacement, painting, masonry, grounds keeping, appliance repair, and electrical wiring 
  • Understanding of OSHA’s standards and practices   
  • Ability to use standard tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities 
  • Understanding of basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division 
  • Food Safety Training required (and will be provided) 
  • Literacy skills  
  • Excellent Communication Skills 
  • Independent decision-making skills 
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes  information skillfully 
  • Prioritizes and plans work activities; Uses time efficiently; Sets goals and objectives

Preferred Skills 

  • Prior experience in a warehouse environment using warehouse power equipment 
  • Prior food handling experience and safety training (e.g. FIFO) 
  • Customer service experience a plus 
  • Facilities maintenance experience  
  • Basic and/or advanced mechanical skills  
  • Skilled tradesman work  

Work Environment/Physical Expectations 

  • Periodic exposure to cold or hot temperatures and outside weather conditions 
  • Most of the work is in a building but not in office 
  • Must be able to move around the building on a consistent basis 
  • Employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands  
  • and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, or smell 
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds 
  • Frequent exposed to moving mechanical parts 
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud 
  • Must have the ability to perform physical duties throughout entire shift
