Title: Local Food Procurement & Capacity Building Specialist

FLSA Status: Full-Time Exempt Position

Pay: $55,000 - $60,000

Reports to: VP of Strategic Initiatives

Grant Contingent - 1 year

Position Overview 

The Local Food Procurement and Capacity Building Specialist will be responsible for procuring food products from New Mexico growers and producers, establishing relationships and partnerships with applicable local entities and partner agencies, reporting products received and where they are delivered. This role will be responsible for securing appropriate documentation and following proper procedures to ensure timely payment. This position is also responsible for work directly related to capacity building projects in our network of partners, which may or may not involve local producers.

  • Sources locally (New Mexico, and possibly regional out of state) products to be distributed within Roadrunner’s Partner Agency Network 
  • Strengthens relationships and establish new partnerships between Roadrunner Food Bank, local producers, partner agencies, and other stakeholders related to hunger relief in New Mexico 
  • Ensures appropriate receipt and distribution of products sourced in Ceres, our inventory/financial database software 
  • Advocates for local food production and hunger relief through presentations, reporting, and at the state legislature when applicable and appropriate 
  • Represents local food systems approach, activities, and impact in local, state and national media where applicable and appropriate 
  • Provides innovative and beneficial solutions to food insecurity by establishing strong partnerships between various stakeholder groups including Roadrunner Food Bank, NM Association Food Banks, Partner Agencies, Advocacy Groups, Local Food Associations, Food Waste Initiatives, etc. 
  • Informs the creation of and management of a local food procurement and capacity building budget in collaboration with Roadrunner’s Executive Staff Team 
  • Assists in capacity building projects including but not limited to the following duties: 
  • Equipment procurement 
  • Data Collection 
  • Community Engagement 
  • Internal Project Task Teams 
  • Informing discussion related to current and future grant/government/foundations/corporate and community fund raising. 
  • Logistics hub and food procurement through Frontier Food Hub and Silver City 
  • Other projects where applicable 
  • Upholds food safety procedures, and support RRFB Operations with product traceability and recalls as needed 
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records and files within all appropriate data systems 
  • Generates reports to measure key program activities and provide data and metrics to facilitate the evaluation of food sourcing and distribution activities of the food bank 
  • Works collaboratively with the RRFB Operations Team, vendors, and product recipients to facilitate and coordinate the transportation and distribution of sourced products in a manner that limits waste and ensures quality 
  • Participates in organizational meetings and initiatives 
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Work Environment

  • On-site and/or home office work 
  • Work “in the field” which may include off-site farm visits, production facility/warehouse visits, meetings with stakeholders throughout the state of New Mexico 
  • This will include time spent in Roadrunner Food Bank’s warehouse or partner’s food storage sites, and occasional food distributions
