The Food Safety Project Specialist reports to the Food Safety and Clean Room OPS Manager. The Food Safety Project Specialist is responsible for leading a volunteer team to execute sorting and repacking plans while maintaining high food safety standards. The Food Safety Project Specialist must adhere to all local, state and federal regulations related to clean room compliance. The Food Safety Project Specialist must also be food safety certified and adhere to AIB standards and all internal Roadrunner Food Bank policies related to food safety and handling. The Food Safety Project Specialist will work with volunteers frequently.

Salary: $16/hr

Responsibilities:

  • Runs volunteer sorting or repacking project in any of the following areas: Produce, Dry Goods, Clean Rooms or others as required to complete sorting and repacking plans? 
  • Maintains food safety and labeling standards within the facility and while working on projects? 
  • Uses Microsoft Teams and Microsoft Outlook to stay informed and communicate with others in the organization 
  • Assists other team members in completing product for Warehouse Team to put away? 
  • Utilizes barcoding hardware/software? 
  • Completes daily/weekly/monthly cleaning logs? 
  • Verifies accuracy of sorting/repacking projects? 
  • Ensures products are sorted according to SOPs? 
  • Ensures product is disposed of properly? 
  • Ensures proper steps are followed when giving food waste to farmers? 
  • Adheres to Roadrunner Food Bank’s Safety policies and mandates from Food Safety and Quality Team? 
  • Leads by example and enforces safety as well as food safety policies? 
  • Properly disposes of product not fit for human consumption according to SOP? 
  • Properly labels pallets? 
  • Follows First Expired First Out procedures when handling perishable food OR First In First Out where appropriate? 
  • Provides clear instructions so volunteers can understand their job duties? 
  • Provides excellent internal/external customer service? 
  • Treats all stakeholders with respect and sets the same expectation with team members and volunteers? 
  • Speaks effectively in front of groups? 
  • Reports any discrepancies daily? 
  • Ensures all completed product is tagged and ready for the Warehousing Team at the end of the shift? 
  • Records all trash weight from produce, dry goods, and repack rooms? 
  • Records all produce weight given to farmers? 
  • Supports the Food Safety and Clean Room OPS Manager and Product Intake Team as assigned?

 

Minimum Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Forklift Certification or capability to complete an OSHA forklift training program within 30-days of hire date.??? 
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Suite of applications (specifically Teams/Outlook)? 
  • Comfortable using technology including barcode scanners, data input and working with a product database.?? 
  • Manager Level Food Safety Training will be provided.?? 
  • Literacy skills required.?? 
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Experience leading volunteers to accomplish a goal while maintaining professional interactions. 
  • Independent decision-making skills. 
  • Commitment to the mission of Roadrunner Food Bank. 

 Preferred Skills 

  • Prior experience in a warehouse environment using warehouse power equipment 
  • High School, GED or equivalent preferred but not required? 
  • Prior food handling experience and safety training (e.g. FIFO) 
  • Customer service experience a plus 

Work Environment/Physical Expectations 

Daily exposure to cold and freezing temperatures 

Repetitive lifting of items up to 50 lbs. 

Repetitive physical movement  

Ability to move product in excess of 1000 lbs. with a pallet jack or other appropriate equipment 

Must have the ability to perform physical duties throughout entire shift
