Title: Digital Communications Specialist
FLSA Status: Full-Time Hourly Position
Pay: $22-$24/hour (based on experience)
Reports to: Director of Communications & Events

Description
The Digital Communications Specialist plays a key role in driving our nonprofit’s mission through compelling and strategic digital storytelling. This position is responsible for managing social media channels, creating engaging content of a variety of forms including text, photo, and video to build awareness, grow community engagement, and drive supporter action. The position also participates in other digital campaigns to develop content for email marketing, website use, digital video display boards and ads, and more.
The role requires a background in content creation, excellent writing and verbal skills, strong storytelling and interview skills, a broad understanding of the various digital platforms and staying up to date on trends and best practices. In addition, the role requires basic project management knowledge and the ability to maintain the food bank’s digital assets in a shared media library.
Key Responsibilities:
Build, Maintain, and Grow Social Media Presence
- Responsible for developing and executing social media strategies, objectives, and editorial calendar to engage, inform, and motivate the community to get involved
- Identify and create creative and compelling content tailored to various social media platforms using text, photography, graphics, and video
- Monitor social media channels, respond to inquiries, and engage with online communities. Establish "on-call" schedule for after hours, weekends, holidays, or times out of the office for social media coverage from team members
- Analyze social media efforts on an established and consistent basis to determine the effectiveness of campaigns and optimize performance
- Identify, collaborate, and build relationships with online influencers and communities throughout the year
- Curate external resources to share or post relevant content from other related organizations or their social media properties
- Keep abreast of the latest practices and technologies available and provide expertise to tweak and optimize for the best potential results
Cross Functional Support
- Identify, research, design, write, and produce high-quality, compelling content for various digital platforms including the website, various email marketing platforms, video display boards, other digital platforms, and offline and online communication toolkits and materials
- Manage and organize story collection process from people we serve, volunteers, donors, staff, and others for use in digital platforms
- Ensure content is aligned with the food bank brand, voice, values, and objectives across digital platforms. Coordinate and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to support the fundraising, advocacy and awareness campaigns for the organization
- Utilize team project management software and tools to manage schedules, deadlines, and commitments
Analytics and Reporting
- Track and report on digital performance across platforms monthly
- Identify trends, insights, and best practices for cross-channel adaptation to modify, repurpose, or reinforce content over various digital properties to increase and optimize performance
- Provide insights and recommendations based on analytics to refine strategies and improve outcomes with the larger team to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and yearly communications activities
Digital Library Oversight
- Organize, manage, and contribute to shared media asset library including photo, video, and story elements for various teams and departments in the organization to use
- Develop standards, naming conventions, archival process, and user access protocols to maintain consistency and optimize searchability across internal teams
- Train staff and stakeholders on best practices, oversee asset workflows, and serve as the primary point of contact for system maintenance, updates, and vendor coordination
Collaboration and Team Work
Provide staffing and logistical support for events and communications needs that include fundraising, friend-raising, and third-party events impacting the work of the food bank
Develop strong and collaborative working relationships with members of other departments and external constituents
Assist with building, creating, and executing additional key fundraising activities such as national Feeding America cause marketing campaigns, direct mail activities, regional food bank initiatives, or other funding opportunities that arise
Take part in working with third-party vendors and companies which may include public relations/marketing/advertising firms, video production companies, digital marketing companies, and other communication-related vendors
Take part in other department functions and activities including conducting and leading tours, giving presentations, and actively being a part of community food distributions
May serve on internal committees and working groups for cross-departmental work and tasks
Work with volunteers as additional helping hands to further a project or activity
Serve as support to internal teams for email and call groups such as the Development Support inbox and food assistance calls during heavy volume months
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or other related field or equivalent work experience
- Demonstrated knowledge using social media or digital marketing with 1-3 years of experience
- Proficient in social media use including analytics tools, scheduling tools, and advertising platform knowledge
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create compelling content with attention to detail
- Strong organizational, planning, communications, problem-solving, time management, and collaboration skills to handle multiple projects
- Knowledge of best photography practices and capturing and editing video for use in multiple digital channels and platforms
- Experience with project management principles and software
- Strong technology skills including proficiency with Microsoft suite of products, email marketing platforms, experience with graphic design platforms, photography skills, and experience with video editing software
- Creative thinker with a passion to keep up to date with industry trends and emerging technologies for future growth
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Multiple languages including English and Spanish
- Experience with at-risk populations
- Working knowledge of content management systems specifically WordPress, knowledge of SEO and SEM practices including keyword research and website analytics tools
- Previous experience working in a nonprofit environment

- This is a hybrid role that should be based within 30 minutes of Albuquerque. The employee may work remotely at times except in situations that require a visit to the food bank, a distribution, a partner location or corporate partner location. Space at the food bank will also be provided to perform work. This is subject to change at any time
- The candidate hired for the position should have consistent internet access throughout a traditional workday. Technology will be provided to perform job duties including a laptop, mouse, headset, appropriate software to perform the work duties and any basic office supplies requested. Any other technology needs will be considered on a case-by-case basis
