Title: Development Officer

FLSA Status: Full-Time Salary Position 

Pay: $58,000 - $60,000 Annually

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

 

Description

The Development Officer is responsible for securing funds for Roadrunner Food Bank within a designated geographic area. The position is responsible for attracting, retaining and stewarding donors who live in Las Cruces and other designated southern New Mexico areas, tracking and reporting contacts and results to meet annual budget objectives. In collaboration and close communication with the Mission Advancement Officer, Development Officer ABQ, Corporate Engagement Officer and the Manager of Volunteer Programs LC and other key staff, this position will help to strengthen the ’individual and corporate giving pipeline’ systems that lead donors to increase engagement and revenue.

Key Result Area #1 Strategic Development

  • Create annual and long-term budget goals/targets for assigned portfolio based on the donor’s history of giving and knowledge of the donor’s giving potential.
  • Leverage existing relationships in order to create new opportunities by identifying donors with the affinity and capability to give more based-on prospect research and donor/prospect interactions.

Key Result Area #2 Cultivation and Solicitation

  • Responsible for increasing giving in Las Cruces and other designated southern New Mexico areas to meet organizational goals
  • Regularly make phone calls, send handwritten cards and emails and conduct face-to-face visits to thank, update, cultivate and solicit donors and prospects utilizing Salesforce Dashboards
  • Represent Roadrunner Food Bank at a variety of donor and prospective donor cultivation opportunities in and around Las Cruces and other designated southern New Mexico areas

Key Result Area #3 Stewardship

  • Ensure that donor information is kept current and donor interactions are consistently documented in Salesforce, the organization’s donor management system
  • Retain assigned portfolio donors and minimize attrition through active follow-up and stewardship efforts including the creation of an effective and regular communication strategy in compliance with Roadrunner’s communications standards and brand identity

Key Result Area #4 - Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Develop strong and collaborative working relationships with members of the Development Team to ensure donor engagement is coordinated - specifically with cross-over to the Roadrunner Club, Full Plate Society, Corporate Engagement and Volunteer team members based in Albuquerque
  • Develop strong and collaborative working relationships with other staff who serve as subject matter experts and content resources to ensure effective and up-to-date messaging for donors/prospects
  • Provide staffing support to large-scale ‘all hands on deck’ events and initiatives that impact the overall development program or organization
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent level of directly related experience to this position
  • Minimum of three years nonprofit fundraising or sales experience
  • Experience working with Salesforce or other donor CRM system
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams or Zoom virtual platforms
  • Successful experience on the phone in making cold calls
  • Successful experience in developing/implementing cultivation and solicitation strategies
  • Must be able to travel throughout the state when needed
  • Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Physical Environment

  • Work environment is a combination of hybrid/office (60%) and in the field (40%)
  • Primarily an office environment in front of a computer screen and on the phone although employee is required to travel to activities and events off-site in Las Cruces and other designated southern New Mexico areas.
  • Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement will be provided.
  • The employee may be required to participate in outdoor activities or events which are subject to exposure to weather conditions.
